The idea came from experiences Nelson faced while transitioning from elementary school to middle and high school, a period when she said the pressure to fit in often felt overwhelming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI felt a lot of pressure to change parts of myself just to fit in or be accepted,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cI think so many girls go through that, especially with social media and comparison being such a big part of everyday life now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather than allowing those experiences to define her negatively, Nelson used them as motivation to create something meaningful for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wanted to create something that reminds girls they don\u2019t have to change who they are to be valued,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Growing up, Nelson learned firsthand how easy it is for young people to measure themselves against unrealistic expectations shaped by online platforms, peer pressure, and comparison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI also had to learn that views, likes, followers, and opinions on social media do not measure your value as a person,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cConfidence comes from being comfortable with who you truly are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her goal is simple but powerful: to help younger girls understand that acceptance does not come from changing themselves to fit expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI want younger girls to know they never have to change themselves just to be accepted because the right people will love them for who they are,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Serving others through the initiative has shaped Nelson in meaningful ways \u2014 personally, academically, and spiritually. She said community involvement has helped strengthen her confidence while teaching her the importance of encouragement and listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cServing my community has helped me become more confident and more aware of the impact simple kindness can have on She said some of the moments that have stayed with her most came through honest conversations with younger girls who simply needed encouragement or someone willing to listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt has pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a leader and speaker,\u201d she said. \u201cSpiritually, it has reminded me how important it is to pour into others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n As Nelson prepares for Miss Tennessee\u2019s Teen this June, she said the experience has been challenging and strengthening at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPreparing for Miss Tennessee\u2019s Teen has definitely been a learning experience, but it has also been so rewarding,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She explained that pageant preparation involves much more than people often realize, requiring interview preparation, appearances, fitness, talent practice, and careful time management while still balancing academics and athletics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s a lot more that goes into it than people realize,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like many students balancing multiple responsibilities, Nelson admits there are days when the demands feel overwhelming, particularly during softball season. Yet she said organization, support systems, and perspective have helped her stay focused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve learned to stay organized, prioritize what matters most, and not be afraid to ask for help when I need it,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She credits her family, teachers, coaches, and community members for providing steady encouragement throughout the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Looking ahead, Nelson hopes to continue expanding \u201cReal Beauty, Real You\u201d so it reaches more schools and students across Tennessee. Beyond the pageant stage, she hopes to continue serving others, further her education, and use any opportunities that come her way to encourage others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “No matter what I do in the future,\u201d Nelson said, \u201cI hope people see me as someone who stayed true to herself and genuinely cared about others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n For Nelson, success is not simply about accomplishments or recognition. Instead, it is about using her voice, experiences, and platform to remind others that confidence begins not with comparison, but with authenticity.
