Huntland High School coach Kermit Reed believes Mooney possesses rare potential, but said his story is still unfolding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBryant Mooney is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young football players to watch,\u201d Reed said. \u201cHe\u2019s already rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, proving he has the talent and determination to make a major impact on Friday nights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reed also pointed to the history attached to Mooney\u2019s name. Bryant\u2019s grandfather, the late Coach \u201cBuster\u201d Mooney, helped lay the foundation for Huntland athletics as one of the school\u2019s original coaches, creating a legacy that continues to resonate within the program today. Now, Bryant has the opportunity to continue that tradition while building a legacy of his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Mooney, however, success is not measured solely by statistics or recognition. He believes much of growth happens in moments that most people never see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMost people don\u2019t see the sacrifices,\u201d he said. \u201cThey see the games, the stats, and the wins, but they don\u2019t see the early mornings, the late nights, the training sessions when my body\u2019s exhausted, or the days I\u2019m still working while everybody else is relaxing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He credits much of his development to discipline rather than motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere are days when motivation isn\u2019t there, but I still work because I know discipline matters more than feelings,\u201d Mooney said. \u201cGreatness isn\u2019t built during the big moments, it\u2019s built in the small moments nobody notices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That mentality has also shaped the way he handles expectations. As one of the team\u2019s standout players, pressure naturally follows, but Mooney said preparation has helped him embrace it rather than fear it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPressure doesn\u2019t really scare me anymore because I\u2019ve learned to trust the work I\u2019ve put in,\u201d he said. \u201cConfidence comes from knowing you gave everything you had before the moment ever arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even at a young age, Mooney understands leadership extends beyond performances under stadium lights. He recognizes that younger athletes are watching and teammates are counting on him, especially as he moves toward an upperclassman role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI try to be the kind of teammate that leads by example first,\u201d Mooney said. \u201cI never want to ask somebody to work harder if they don\u2019t already see me doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reed believes leadership will be the next major step in Mooney\u2019s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe talent is there, but the next step in Bryant\u2019s journey will be leadership,\u201d Reed said. \u201cGreat players make plays, but all-time greats inspire others, work harder than everyone around them, and lead when adversity hits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mooney said the people around him have been instrumental in shaping both his athletic journey and personal character. He credits family members, coaches, and mentors who pushed him to pursue more than what came naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy parents have always supported me and sacrificed a lot so I could chase my dreams,\u201d he said. \u201cThe biggest impact has come from the people who refused to let me settle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n As he enters his junior season at Huntland High School, expectations will continue to rise. But if Mooney\u2019s work ethic, discipline, and steady approach are any indication, the future remains bright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The touchdowns and big plays may capture attention, but those closest to him believe what separates Bryant is the standard he continues to set long before kickoff. For a player carrying both talent and tradition, the next chapter is only beginning.
