While the industry struggles to find workforce, the National Utility Contractors Association of Middle TN (NUCA MidTN) is allowing kids ages 2 to 14 into the world of heavy equipment through it’s Dozer Day 2024 Event being held on September 28th. The organization hopes that they will carry that enthusiasm into their teenage years and eventually to their educational choices which will lead to their adult careers.
That’s the theory anyway, behind Dozer Day. “We’re going to have a multitude of live action equipment that will be in operation throughout the event, ” says Natalie Hansen, Executive Director of the NUCA Chapter. “Each kid will get to operate and ride on multiple pieces of equipment, play in dirt piles, operate remote equipment, and other fun construction activities.”
There will be plenty of static equipment for photo opportunities as well as some adult areas to try their hands on operations as well.
Dozer Day has become a very successful tool for educating, inspiring and recruiting the next generation of construction professionals by giving kids the ultimate “construction experience” through close contact with heavy construction equipment, dirt & sand piles, pipe mazes, as well as other fun educational activities.
