They had intended the White Hart to be a hub of outreach and community involvement and did not let the pandemic stop them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were like, \u2018What are we going to do?\u2019\u201d he remembers. \u201cOne of the first things we did as a team was donate food through a nonprofit we work with. We cooked hot meals for people and worked with churches to distribute hot meals \u2014 around 10,000 hot meals in about three months. And we got some other downtown restaurants involved in that effort. Our focus then was the need for food through the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"785\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-18-at-12.13.27-PM-785x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-18-at-12.13.27-PM-785x1024.png 785w, https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-18-at-12.13.27-PM-480x626.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 785px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Barron had spent time in Guatemala, where he became acquainted with people with a little coffee spot. \u201cI was blown away by the enthusiasm that was around coffee. I got hooked on it that way, just as a product,\u201d said Barron. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA business model of some kind is one of the most sustainable ways, and perhaps the best way, to impact and develop communities all around the world. You\u2019re creating jobs, and you\u2019re providing a market for products that are already being made.\u201d With the connections he had in the coffee world, not just in Guatemala but in Peru and Nepal, the White Hart was the most logical progression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe called it \u2018Lynchburg\u2019s Living Room,\u2019 a name that was actually given to it before we even got here. And you think about what a living room is. If you\u2019re invited into a living room, you belong there. It\u2019s a place of belonging. It\u2019s a place where you can let your guard down, be yourself, and be comfortable. You talk about meaningful things, you laugh together, you spend time together, you play games \u2014 whatever it might be. We definitely see our space like that. We even curate events that generate that atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White Hart has a lot to offer. \u201cWe have a strong connection to the artists\u2019 community. We really push behind artists, whether it\u2019s visual art that hangs on our wall, or spoken word or poetry.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lynchburg itself is of many minds. In a world where political differences cause separation, the White Hart brings people together. \u201cYou have these two worlds, this dichotomy, and I love that there\u2019s that kind of clash in a way because I think there\u2019s a lot of room for growth on both sides when you have that. Something\u2019s always challenging the other, which can get out of hand. But because of that, it\u2019s very difficult to create a space where everyone belongs when there are such strong opinions against what other people think. And to be able to host events and have public forums, we\u2019ve even had political discussions and things like that in our space. Making connections is a gift \u2014 to be able to help people talk about things that are very hard to talk about and who are on opposite sides of the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/BG-1-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/BG-1-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/BG-1-980x653.png 980w, https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/lynchburg-va\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2024\/01\/BG-1-480x320.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we came in, we didn\u2019t pick sides. We like to push the envelope a little bit to get people to think outside of their comfort zone and to push against their bubble a little bit. So there\u2019s a mixed bag.\u201d The White Hart has a wonderful array of coffee and food, all enhanced by the visually pleasing surroundings. Spending time there is a pleasant experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m big on why,\u201d Barron reiterates. \u201cI want to know why we\u2019re doing what we\u2019re doing. It doesn\u2019t take much to knock you off if you don\u2019t have a clear why. You\u2019re distracted, you\u2019re meandering, and you\u2019re aimless.\u201d Even the term \u2018white hart\u2019 is a definite statement: a symbol of pursuit for something real, like a chase for adventure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s what we push with. We want to invite people along. Come with us. Be on the adventure with us. Let\u2019s engage in this process together.
