Foothills Crafts is a local gem where you can find unique, handmade products. It\u2019s a nonprofit that supports local artisans and offers classes. When you shop with Foothills Crafts, you\u2019re also supporting our community and helping to preserve local crafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bennett joined Foothills Crafts in October 2022, and in October 2023, she became a member of the board as vice president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Together, the crafters work on community projects, such as crafting embroidered items for children and walker bags for nursing home residents. Recently, the Foothills Crafts community rallied to provide comfort to victims of the Caden Estates apartment fire. They quickly organized a quilt sew-in, producing a generous supply of warm and cozy quilts for local police officers to distribute to the fire victims. The police department was so impressed by the generosity of the crafters that they requested additional quilts to keep on hand for future emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe best part of our community projects is knowing that we are making a positive difference in someone\u2019s life,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over time, Bennett has learned new techniques, materials, and inspirations, such as sewing, woodworking, and upcycling. Exploring new ideas has taught her patience, perseverance, and joy in the small things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bennett said community projects enhanced her teamwork and problem-solving skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cParticipating in community projects has been a truly rewarding journey. Engaging with individuals \u2014 each with their own unique stories and viewpoints \u2014 has expanded my global perspective and deepened my compassion for others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She continued, \u201cThese projects have enhanced my teamwork and problem-solving abilities as we\u2019ve encountered and overcome various obstacles to reach our objectives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She looks to nature as her muse, along with craft stores, online exploration, partnerships, and craft events, asserting that \u201ccreativity thrives on diverse influences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n With her husband, she crafts personalized wooden blocks as heartfelt tributes. Each block is carefully made to capture the essence of a loved one and brings comfort and light as special keepsakes. The demand for these unique mementos grows during the holiday season, and they bring those who have lost loved ones the peace they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aside from the personal satisfaction of creating something beautiful, crafting has also enhanced Bennett\u2019s mental health. For her and many other crafters, it is a form of therapy and a way to relax and de-stress. The repetitive motions of knitting or sewing can be incredibly calming, and the focus required to complete a project can help clear the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the future, Bennett is excited to continue exploring crafting, learning new techniques, and creating pieces that bring joy and beauty to the world. She plans to continue supporting the crafting community and encouraging others to find joy in creating with their own hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crafting has been a powerful experience for Bennett, and she is grateful for the opportunities it has provided.
