IT\u2019S LUNCHTIME on a Friday, and Mother\u2019s Subs has parked their bright yellow food truck in my work parking lot. My co-workers and I swarmed the vehicle, ready for a delicious meal, and luckily for me, I had the chance to sample multiple sandwiches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I ordered the combo meal: the grilled cheese with American and provolone cheese, a Southern sweet tea, and a bag of chips. I also spotted their \u201ccup of dirt,\u201d which is chocolate pudding with a cookie crumble topped with gummy worms, and had to try it out to appease my child-like wonder. The thick slices of sourdough bread were grilled perfectly with a crisp, buttery outside. The cheese was also thickly sliced and perfectly melty inside. The sweet tea was refreshing and the perfect drink on this hot day. And the \u201ccup of dirt\u201d was the greatest ending to any meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Reuban was masterfully crafted with its corned beef, sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing, and Swiss cheese nestled into the toasted rye bread. The meatball sub was also perfectly toasted, full of tender meatballs that had the perfect consistency and were drenched with a sweet marinara sauce. They also had an assortment of flavored teas. I sampled the strawberry tea, and to my surprise, it wasn\u2019t too sweet, unlike its cousin, the Southern sweet tea. It had a subtle strawberry flavor that wasn\u2019t overpowering but was highly satisfying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next time you see the big yellow food truck and giant banner that says, \u201cfresh subs,\u201d be sure to stop immediately for one of the best lunch options in Shelbyville. Not only is their food fresh with great ingredients, but their top-notch customer service is also some of the best I\u2019ve ever had and will keep me coming back for more.
