DID YOU know the holiday involving copious amounts of green beer is actually an Irish holiday celebrating Christianity? It is! In fact, the holiday is held each year on the anniversary of Saint Patrick\u2019s death. Saint Patrick was a patron saint who lived during the fifth century. He was born in Roman Britain but later was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave. During his time enslaved, he grew in his relationship with and affection for God. He did eventually escape from captivity but later chose to return to Ireland to bring the good news of Jesus Christ back to the land. So as you go about preparing your St. Parick\u2019s Day feasts and treats, don\u2019t forget to remember the Good News! We hope you eat, drink, and be merry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My Old Fashioned\u00a0Bread Pudding<\/strong>: Submitted By Debra Gold<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingredients-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1\/2 c. dark raisins
1\/2 c. brandy
1\/4 c. butter or margarine
8 slices white bread, lightly toasted 1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed 1 t. ground cinnamon
1\/4 t. allspice
3 eggs
1\/4 t. salt
1 t. vanilla extract
3 c. milk, scalded and cooled<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions:<\/strong> Cover raisins with brandy in a bowl. Set aside. Spread\u00a0butter or margarine on each bread slice. Cut bread into 1\u201d cubes. Set aside. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and\u00a0allspice in a bowl, reserving 3 tablespoons. Toss bread\u00a0cubes in the bowl of sugar mixture. Place half of bread cube mixture in lightly greased 1 1\/2 quart casserole dish. Drain raisins and place over bread cubes. Repeat\u00a0layers. Combine eggs, salt, and vanilla in a medium bowl.\u00a0Beat with electric mixer on medium speed for 1 minute.\u00a0Gradually stir in milk. Pour over bread cubes. Let stand for\u00a05 minutes. Sprinkle reserved sugar mixture over top. Bake\u00a0at 325\u00b0 for 45-50 minutes. Serve warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3 c. SR flour
1 t. cream of tarter 1\/2 – 1 c. buttermilk<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions:<\/strong> Preheat oven to 400\u00b0. In a large mixing bowl, mix\u00a0together flour and cream of tarter. Add enough\u00a0buttermilk until it\u2019s easy to work with. It should belike biscuit dough. Turn onto floured surface and roll into desired thickness, adding flour as needed. Using a pizza cutter, cut into triangles and place on a buttered cookie sheet. This dough does not rise very\u00a0much, so do not roll out too thin. Bake 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 3\/4 c. sugar
1 c. oil
3 eggs
2 c. SR flour
1 t. cinnamon
2 c. apples, grated
1 c. pecans, chopped\u00a01\/2 c. coconut <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1\/2 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
1\/2 stick margarine 1\/2 c. sugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions:<\/strong>In a large bowl, mix 1 3\/4 c. sugar, oil, and eggs.\u00a0Beat well. Stir in flour and cinnamon. Add apples,\u00a0nuts, and coconut. Mix well. Pour into a 9x13sheet cake pan. Bake at 350 \u030a for 45 minutes. While cake is baking, prepare glaze. In a saucepan, mix\u00a0milk, vanilla, margarine, and 1\/2 c. sugar and cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
