But this era, with its \u201cbigger is better\u201d attitude, when boomboxes and camcorders were so bulky we carried them on our shoulders, wouldn\u2019t have been complete without the iconic script, endearing Southern characters, and one-liners made famous by \u201cSteel Magnolias.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it isn\u2019t any wonder that fans of \u201cSteel Magnolias\u201d flocked to The Fly Dinner Theater in such record numbers this past December that they squeezed in two additional back-to-back performances. Before the curtain closed, they\u2019d had seven completely sold-out shows!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/shelbyville\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/02\/3-5-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/shelbyville\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/02\/3-5-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/shelbyville\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/02\/3-5-980x653.jpg 980w, https:\/\/goodnewsmags.com\/shelbyville\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/02\/3-5-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photos submitted by Andrea Nix and Jody Barnes-Turner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A meager $500 production budget, a loveseat breaking mid-rehearsal, and an HVAC unit failing during a performance couldn\u2019t squelch the spirits of all involved. As Truvy famously said, \u201cLaughter through tears is my favorite emotion.\u201d This sentiment rang true as touching moments were not only experienced by the actresses in \u201cTruvy\u2019s Beauty Shop\u201d on stage, but all across the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of The Fly Arts Center, Jody Barnes Turner, said, \u201cOur theater director, Keith Davis, selected \u2018Steel Magnolias\u2019 earlier in the year. As a nonprofit, our annual dinner theater is a key fundraiser, and Keith had the insight to recognize that this production would resonate with our audience \u2014 and it truly did.
