\u201cI did not want to be a cookie-cutter business,\u201d she said. \u201cI love unique things. That was my goal. I wanted to sell things that nobody else did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That desire \u2014 to be completely herself \u2014 became the heartbeat of Gigi\u2019s Nest, the shop she opened more than a decade ago and shaped into a reflection of her eclectic soul. Walking inside feels like stepping into Sherrill\u2019s imagination: warm, cozy, and full of unexpected delights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The space is filled with one-of-a-kind finds, revived treasures, and handmade pieces that carry her special touch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always changing,\u201d she said. \u201cThings never remain the same as far as styles. I order a lot of really cool, unique things. Not eight of one thing, but just two. I want to keep things fresh and different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sherrill hopes that when customers come through the door, they immediately pick up on the welcoming vibe and safe place for all that is unique and creative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI know that when people come in here, they feel the vibe,\u201d she said. \u201cAs soon as they walk in the door, I try to always have music playing and a candle burning. I want people to come in here and just feel the feeling that I feel when I come here every day. I\u2019m happy and excited to be here. But I just want people to come in and feel good and relaxed and take their time because there\u2019s a lot to see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Part of what makes Gigi\u2019s Nest so special is Sherrill\u2019s ability to breathe new life into old pieces. Over the years, she has made vintage pillows, curtains, custom beads, and countless refurbished items that now live in homes throughout the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI paint furniture,\u201d she explained. \u201cLadies will bring me their grandma\u2019s antiques or dad\u2019s whatever. I paint them however they want, or I\u2019ll give them ideas. I like variety and color. Painting everything white is not for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s where she said her \u201cGigi magic\u2019\u2019 happens. It\u2019s not just paint or fabric or design \u2014 it\u2019s the way she sees what something could be, not just what it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen I am doing the furniture, and I\u2019m painting, it\u2019s very exciting to me,\u201d she said. \u201cI use the basic information that my customer tells me, and I take it from there. They trust me to give it my \u2018Gigi magic.\u2019 And everybody\u2019s always been happy with the few things that I\u2019ve done on my own. I have been blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sherrill added that local businesses like hers keep unique gifts affordable while helping money stay within the community. They make it easy to find something special without overspending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are affordable,\u201d she stated. \u201cIn my store \u2014 and most of the stores like mine \u2014 there\u2019s a wide range of prices. If you\u2019re looking for a gift for someone, you can stop in and find something unique and cool without breaking the bank. Also, the money needs to stay in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sherrill hopes customers will see that Gigi\u2019s Nest is more than a shop. It\u2019s a place where stories are preserved, forgotten pieces are reborn, and visitors feel welcomed into something warm and personal.
