Now, after 35 live episodes on local TV broadcasts, YouTube, LightTube, and social media, the duo has become a recognizable voice for local athletics, student stories, and community pride across Tullahoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But what makes the show special is friendship, authenticity, and lots of love for the place they call home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two friends have known each other since they were teenagers playing basketball together in Tullahoma, \u201cback in the 1900s,\u201d as they jokingly tell viewers. Their friendship continued through coaching careers, education, raising families, and investing in the same community where they grew up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That history shows every time they\u2019re on camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSomeone told us once that we play off each other really well,\u201d McMurtry said. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s true because we\u2019ve been friends for so long. We just joke around and have a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pair agrees that the day the show stops being fun is the day they walk away. Fortunately, that day seems nowhere in sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the past year, Shuran and McMurtry have welcomed coaches, athletes, assistant coaches, recreation leaders, bowlers, golfers, archers, and even fifth grade basketball players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their goal was to intentionally create a platform for students and teams that might otherwise go unnoticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne of the biggest compliments we got all year,\u201d McMurtry said, \u201cwas people saying, \u2018I didn\u2019t know our golf team was that good,\u2019 or \u2018I didn\u2019t even know we had archery.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For two educators, those moments mean the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some of the show\u2019s most memorable moments have come from students who weren\u2019t necessarily star athletes but had remarkable stories of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One guest who left a lasting impression on the hosts was Logan \u201cBirdman\u201d Brewer, a student manager for the basketball team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe came in and was so intelligent and thoughtful,\u201d Shuran said. \u201cI was blown away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another fan favorite was Andrew \u201cHatty\u201d Hatfield, whose football-season \u201cHatty Report\u201d segments evolved from brief appearances into confident on-air features. Over time, viewers watched him grow more comfortable in front of the camera and build his own following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His parents later shared how much the experience helped him socially and boosted his confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s the cool part for us as educators,\u201d McMurtry said. \u201cThe TV part is neat, but hearing that somebody felt seen or gained confidence because of the show \u2014 that\u2019s what matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their heart for students and the community is evident in nearly every episode. While sports provide the foundation, the conversations often explore family, relationships, mentorship, and the people who make Tullahoma what it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One question surfaced so often that regular viewers likely came to expect it: \u201cWhat brought you back to Tullahoma?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ironically, both Shuran and McMurtry once believed they would never return to themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like many young adults, they left town for college and career opportunities. McMurtry taught in South Carolina before returning to Middle Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shuran also envisioned a future elsewhere before returning to Tullahoma to raise a family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, both see something they didn\u2019t fully appreciate when they were younger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s some kind of magic here,\u201d Shuran said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That \u201cmagic\u201d is a recurring theme on the show. Former student-athletes return to coach. Graduates come back to teach. Families grew roots for generations. Time and again, guests describe finding their way back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt takes a village,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Middle school students gather courtside to watch broadcasts. Grandparents tune in each week from home. One caller even phoned in from Georgia simply because he missed Tullahoma and enjoyed hearing the same voices from the community he once called home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For Shuran and McMurtry, those moments never get old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neither man claims to be building a media empire. But beneath the humor is something meaningful \u2014 two friends using their personalities, their platform, and their love for their hometown to celebrate the people around them.
