After several years, Logan transitioned into English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, where she quickly realized she had found exactly where she belonged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy first year of teaching ESL, I was split between elementary and high school, so I got the best of both worlds,\u201d she said. \u201cThen, when I came over to Manchester City Schools, I went to elementary only, and it has been amazing. Elementary, I feel like, is such a special time for these students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Logan serves as the lead ESL teacher for Manchester City Schools, overseeing the district\u2019s ESL program and teaching at Westwood Elementary. She is also pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership and instruction, continuing her own journey as a lifelong learner while helping others grow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her passion extends far beyond classroom walls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI recently had a family reach out to me,\u201d she explained. \u201cThey\u2019re having to return to Mexico, and they need resources. For me, that is such a comfort to know that they look to me when they need something. The children, especially, know that Mrs. Holly will help them. Those relationships are so important. I believe you have to establish a relationship with families in order to help their children be successful. It\u2019s not just a teacher or just parents \u2014 it takes everybody. By building that, you can take care of all their needs both inside and outside of the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While her students remain at the center of everything she does, Logan has also become a respected mentor among fellow educators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As a member of the district instructional leadership team, she helps shape conversations about curriculum while ensuring teachers and multilingual learners have a voice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI also serve on the district instructional leadership team, and that has been phenomenal as it has given me opportunities to learn more about things such as the curriculum and challenges within the school system,\u201d explained Logan. \u201cIt has allowed me to bring input from my colleagues in those meetings and identify issues. Then we are able to come to the table and try to solve those problems. I love that I can advocate for my students, but also for the other teachers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Her impact is measured not only by academic growth but also by the students who continue to give back long after they leave her classroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am starting my 12th year this year,\u201d she said. \u201cI have a student who reaches out to me every time we have parent-teacher conferences. Even though she\u2019s graduated, she will reach out to me and want to come back and help translate for families. She\u2019s very inspirational. She was able to go through the ESL program, and now she is giving back to her community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n This year, Logan\u2019s work received national recognition when she was surprised with the prestigious Milken Educator Award, an honor often called the \u201cOscar of Teaching.\u201d Along with the award came an unrestricted $25,000 prize, which she plans to use toward completing her doctorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen they said my name, I was speechless,\u201d she said. \u201cYou literally feel like you are in a dream.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n The recognition also opens doors to national leadership opportunities, mentorship, and collaboration with outstanding educators across the country \u2014 opportunities Logan hopes will strengthen her ability to advocate for multilingual learners and fellow teachers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For Logan, every new opportunity traces back to the same lesson she hopes her students carry with them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI hope that they\u2019ll always know to pursue their passion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen you pursue your passion, you don\u2019t just settle for a job \u2014 you actually pursue what you love and what you\u2019re passionate about. You will receive opportunities that you never even dreamed of. And I truly feel that\u2019s happening right now with me. This is where I belong. Honestly, I\u2019m thriving right now. I\u2019ve been receiving many opportunities that I\u2019ve literally never even thought of because I just put my heart and soul into this.
