The City of Tullahoma’s Recreation Department will soon host a free concert on Rock Creek Greenway at Frazier McEwen Park. The show is scheduled for September 10, 2022, from 7 until 9 p.m. The night will feature Resurrection, a Journey cover band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea for this family-friendly concert came directly from the desires and requests of Tullahoma citizens themselves. Dave Anderson, Tullahoma’s new parks and recreation director, shared that his team conducted an online survey to poll the community on what they would most like to see in our area. Anderson and his team wanted to better understand the community’s wishes. Based on the responses they received, they came up with an action plan that best served the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A<\/em>nderson shared, “We recently updated our parks and recreation master plan. We conducted an online public survey. One of the main focal points of that survey that the public had expressed interest in were family and special events, concerts in particular. So in response, we want to continue to provide free concerts for our citizens and families.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first year for concerts in the park. However, after a recent planning meeting this plan is more set in stone and a more definitive plan for having concerts like this on a regular basis. The intent of the city’s recreation department is to host at least one concert each fall, spring, and summer. This would bring the average to two or three shows a year, at minimum.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson shared, “We’re looking to try and provide two or three concerts a year, but we’ve had some change in our organizational structure. The person responsible for these concerts in years past has moved on to a different role within the city. We are still trying to accustom ourselves to this new organizational chart, but we are trying to slowly bring back our concerts within this new structure. It’s taken a little bit of time to kind of get reorganized after our administrative shuffle.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenges of shuffling roles, Anderson is confident that this upcoming concert will be a hit. He shared, “We’re going to try and get a couple of food truck vendors in addition to the beer tent sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. We may even try to get a couple of arts and crafts vendors there, so it should be a great time. We encourage everyone to come out. It will be a fun, family-friendly event for our community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
