by | Dec 2023

ACCORDING TO the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021, 1 in 6 deaths from cardiovascular disease was due to stroke. According to statistics, someone experiences a stroke every 40 seconds. Early stroke detection and treatment are crucial to improving survival, minimizing disability, and accelerating recovery times, according to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital (TGRH). Recognized as a primary stroke center, TGRH provides a comprehensive system for swiftly diagnosing and treating stroke patients when admitted to the emergency department.

The American Heart Association recently presented TGRH with multiple awards, including the prestigious Get With the Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement award and the Type 2 Honor Roll award. The Type 2 Honor Roll award recognizes hospitals that offer exceptional care to patients who have Type 2 diabetes and are hospitalized after a heart attack, enduring symptoms of heart failure, or stroke. “Our hospital is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to our community and is honored by these national recognitions,” said CEO Mike Sherrod. “Our physicians and colleagues are committed to ensuring quality and safety are at the forefront of every patient interaction, which ultimately leads to more lives saved and reduced disability.”

For over 50 years, TGRH has faithfully served the people of Southern Kentucky. They are leaders in emergency care, boasting an accredited chest pain center and a primary stroke center, both open 24 hours a day. As the first hospital in Kentucky to offer the CardioMEMS HF system, making it possible for physicians to closely monitor heart patients without leaving their homes, the cardiac care they provide to patients managing heart failure in unsurpassed. Recognized by the Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, they are recognized as a national leader in ensuring patients receive quality health care.

Healthgrades recognized TGHR in March 2023 as a Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient, elevating their status to the top 10% of all short-term acute care Hospitals. “Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do,” said Sherrod. “We continually look for ways to improve our processes and ensure patients receive the best care. This award is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for those who choose us for care.”

TGHR is a 211-bed facility and is part of TriStar Health, the largest and most comprehensive health care provider that, according to TGRH, includes a network of 11 hospitals, 21 imaging centers, 93 physician offices, five emergency rooms, eight outpatient surgery centers, 21 CareNow urgent care centers, and 10 medical parks. The TriStar Health network served over 900,000 patients last year, handling 478,000 emergency room visits, 93,000 inpatient admissions, and delivering over 8,000 babies. With over 2,400 physicians and 10,000 TriStar Health System employees, including 2,800 nurses, TGRH employs our friends, loved ones, and neighbors. TGRH invests in our community because they are the lifeblood of our community.

Emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, and surgical services are available here in Bowling Green. Using a state-of-the-art robot to preform surgical procedures, patients now have the option of minimally invasive techniques for general surgery, thoracic, urologic, gynecology, and orthopedic surgeries. TGRH is anticipating several more exciting upgrades this year, including a new 3D mammography scanner and an MRI will purchase additional amenities, including new patient recliners. “Providing high-quality, compassionate care remains a top priority,” concludes Sherrod. “Connected to a robust network of care within the TriStar Health System, TriStar Greenview can meet our community’s health care needs and provide comprehensive health care services right here, close to home.
