The longer I live in Lynchburg, the more opinions I hear regarding who serves the best bagels in town. If you are a local, odds are that you have a strong opinion on the subject. While I am no New Yorker, nor would I claim to be a bagel connoisseur, I can say that Blue Ridge Bagels is my favorite bagel shop in Lynchburg.
Stepping inside feels like stepping into the heart of the community, where every generation and walk of life gathers — young families, college students, business professionals, and retirees — each savoring a taste of something familiar yet uniquely comforting. From the stone-covered entryway to the seasonal decorations, the energy and atmosphere embody the very best of Lynchburg and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Their bagels are authentic New York bagels, baked fresh every day. The menu includes at least 14 bagel flavors, homemade cream cheese, and every kind of sandwich you could ask for. My go-to order since I moved to Lynchburg has been a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a jalapeno bagel. My order is never complete without a large order of their flavor-of-the-month iced coffee.
Whether you have been a regular for years like me or are a first-time patron, there is an unmistakable quality of family and community and a spirit that reflects the beauty of the mountains for which it is named. Stop in, grab a bagel and a coffee, and tell them that Good News sent you! GN
