GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Lebanon. This month, Krys Midgett visited Angelo’s Italian Restaurant.
JUST PAST the Lebanon square, there is a cute little Italian restaurant with the best spumoni that I’ve ever tasted. And I’ve tasted a lot of spumoni (a dessert layered with chocolate, cherry, and pistachio ice cream). It has been my favorite for as long as I can remember. Kathy and Frank Cerullo, the owners of Angelo’s Italian Restaurant, have perfected the recipe. It’s probably a good thing that I can’t buy it by the gallon.

My hubby, Brian, and I decided to visit Angelo’s for a date night. The decor had an “old New York” kind of vibe to it, and the atmosphere was lively. We are both pasta lovers, but I am also a huge pasta snob. I was trying to decide what I wanted, and one of the other customers suggested the lasagna. Well, he did not steer me wrong. The lasagna was loaded with meat and cheeses. It was melty and delicious. I’ll definitely order that again.
Brian knows what he likes, so he orders chicken fettuccini Alfredo at any restaurant that has it on the menu. He loved their version of this dish. The chicken was well-seasoned and tender. The creamy Alfredo sauce was rich, without being too heavy. It was a very satisfying dinner. I reluctantly shared my spumoni with him, and he enjoyed that as well.

The Cerullos started Scoopz Italian Ice several years ago, but transitioned it into Angelo’s (named after their grandson) in 2021. They are working on adding a full-service bar in the future. If you appreciate authentic Italian cuisine, stop by Angelo’s Italian Restaurant for a delicious meal and dessert you can’t refuse. Be sure to save a slice of spumoni for me. GN
