GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Lebanon. This month, Krys Midgett visited Belle’s Little Country Kitchen.
JUST NORTHof the historic Lebanon square, there is a little country kitchen that you have to try. My husband and I stopped in there one Saturday night and, much to my delight (and his horror), it was karaoke night. I cannot sing and probably shouldn’t, but that has never stopped me.

When we entered the restaurant, it was packed with friendly customers, and the vibe felt more like a family than a business. The staff was very welcoming. The decor was down-home, with family photos on the walls, including one of Martha Belle Williams, for whom the restaurant was named about a decade ago. Belle’s was buzzing with karaoke songs from every decade and a room full of laughter. I even did a horrible rendition of “Nobody” by Sylvia.
The server gave us great suggestions for dinner. They serve breakfast all day, so I went with chocolate gravy and a pancake. It was basically a dessert for dinner. The pancake tasted like a vanilla cupcake — it was heavenly. I grew up eating chocolate gravy and biscuits, so I was excited to try it. I was not disappointed. It gave my mama’s recipe a run for its money. My husband ordered the Daddy’s Double Burger Basket. It was a massive, juicy burger, covered in cheese and served with a side of onion rings. The burger was hand-patted, and the onion rings had the perfect amount of crunch without being soggy. To top off my dessert for dinner, we ordered a chocolate milkshake. It was creamy, with the right amount of chocolate. It looked so good that neighboring tables ordered one.

We will be visiting Belle’s Little Country Kitchen again. It’s a great place where you can belt out bad karaoke with no judgment and be treated like family. GN
