GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Lebanon. This month, Krys Midgett visited Front Porch Cafe.
“FOOD IS the ingredient that binds us together.” I was reminded of this quote after my recent visit to Front Porch Cafe. It’s a newly-renovated home that, according to my husband, has been there for many years.
John and Mary Bessie saw the charm of the house and had their hearts set on opening a restaurant where the community could come together. From the moment we stepped into this cozy cafe, I felt the positivity and love. The decor was warm and a bit eclectic. It’s a combination of farm chic and artsy; the paintings of coffee cups with positive affirmations stood out to me the most.

The Bessies work with local businesses, which shows their love for supporting others. The bagels come from Jersey Oven in Mt. Juliet, the chocolate from Durci, and the coffee beans are roasted by Nashville’s Crema. They even sell coffee beans, along with Durci chocolate-covered Crema coffee beans.
I tried the pesto-baked eggs, which consisted of two eggs baked with feta, pesto, and pico de gallo. The eggs were perfectly baked atop pesto, covered with feta cheese, and served with a piece of sourdough toast. Brian had a chicken Caesar wrap. He loved it. We had a side of hashbrown casserole. It is a delicious bowl full of cheesy onions and potatoes. Another highlight is that breakfast is served all day, and they have a wide range of gluten-free foods.

Of course, we had to try the coffee. The seasonal flavors looked great. Dubai candy is all the rage, so they followed the trend. I ordered the Dubai latte. My taste buds fell in love with the nutty pistachio in steamy milk. It was what I was looking for in a coffee. Brian had the Butterbeer latte, which had a creamy, caramel-like taste. They also have Butterbeer, which is a must-have for “Harry Potter” fans.
Food made with love, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and local ingredients — it feels like the heart of the community. At Front Porch Cafe, food truly binds us together, and every bite is served from the heart. GN
