GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Lebanon. This month, Krys Midgett visited Lebanon Coffee House.
WHEN I walked into Lebanon Coffee House, I was instantly greeted with the smell of fresh ground coffee beans and the glow of the Christmas lights.
I ordered the Reuben sandwich and a peppermint mocha. It came with a side of pasta salad. I love Reubens; those are one of my go-to sandwiches. Typically, a Reuben consists of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut. Imagine my surprise when I get my Reuben to find it has coleslaw instead of sauerkraut. I don’t usually like coleslaw, so I was very apprehensive about this sandwich.
I really liked the staff, and the holiday decor was beautiful. They have their own coffee beans, and the peppermint mocha was delicious. So, despite my confusion about the switch from sauerkraut to coleslaw, I decided to at least give this sandwich a taste, not expecting to actually like it. I am a very picky eater and am told that I have no poker face when I don’t like something. Plus, I rarely like coleslaw.
I took my first bite of this version of a Reuben and was so delightfully surprised. The first thing I noticed was that the coleslaw was actually very good. The flavor combination of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and coleslaw was just delicious. I mean, sauerkraut and coleslaw are both made with cabbage, so it makes sense. I will definitely order that again.
Lunch at Lebanon Coffee House was a huge success. It definitely filled me with holiday joy. From the always festive peppermint mocha, made fresh, to the colorful pasta salad, and the unexpected surprise flavor combination of a new twist on the classic Reuben, this restaurant was a wonderful holiday treat.
