FOLLOWING MY feet and my appetite, I let my senses carry me past the beautiful pink doorway and toward the source of freshly baked goods. Brianne Melcher, owner of and baker for bakehouse, was as warm and sweet as her confections as we chatted.
She led me toward various cookie and muffin options based on my personal preferences. First, I had an Earl Grey sugar cookie that graced my tongue with all the pleasures of a “London Fog” tea but without the bitterness. I couldn’t help but share it with others; it was my first and longest-lasting bite. Next, a “Morning Glory” muffin that melted in my mouth. Then, a chocolate chip and a peanut butter chip cookie were both as beautiful on the outside as they were inside, alongside an equally mesmerizing oat and toasted pecan cookie.
Not to mention, bakehouse also has gluten-free and vegan options. I tasted the fudgiest, greatest gluten-free brownie and a coconut-y “breakfast cookie.”
The only mistake I made in coming here was that I didn’t arrive earlier in the day when I would have had more dizzyingly delicious options to choose from — though it would have made my ultimate choices harder, no doubt. That’s something to keep in mind when you decide to pay our lovely baker a visit. Being a small-batch bakery, it makes sense. Every item I tried was worth a revisit.
What sets bakehouse apart is not just the exceptional treats but the genuine sense of community it fosters. Regulars are greeted by name, and first-time visitors are welcomed with smiles and recommendations. It’s a place where neighbors can gather to discuss family and share stories, creating a hub of connection in this already tight-knit town.
In a world that often rushes past the simple pleasures, bakehouse stands as a reminder that joy can be found in the uncomplicated and the familiar — its amazing baked goods can testify to that. If you find yourself craving a treat, don’t miss the chance to step into this charming bakery, where every bite is a celebration of the sweet simplicity that makes life truly delicious. GN
