DAVID PILLOW and Ryan Vaughn brought a new level of sophistication to The Standard Grooming Lounge. They opened the barbershop on March 14, 2022. In just a short time, they have already made waves in the community by hiring their third barber, Zayne, and expanding their business to include an exceptional hair and beard product line.
At The Standard Grooming Lounge, they understand that creating a welcoming environment begins with fostering community engagement and connectivity.
Barbershops and salons offering high-quality hair care, skin care, and grooming products add value to the customer experience and help build credibility for their business.
Their new product line consists of beard oils containing organic ingredients such as almond oil, biotin, vitamin E, and essential oils to keep hair strands growing healthy and polished. They also have beard balms and styling products with similar ingredients to keep hair styled to perfection. The styling products include texture pastes, pomades, claymore, hair styling powder, and dry grooming creams.

The co-owners and barbers are passionate about providing an exceptional experience for each client. They pay special attention to detail when it comes to professional haircuts so that customers can leave feeling confident and looking their best.
Vaughn said, “We are not your average barbershop. We have spent years working on our craft so that our customers leave satisfied with our work. We focus on building friendships with everyone who walks through our doors, and those relationships keep us going inside and out of the barbershop.”
Pillow said many factors led to him settling in the great city of Manchester, including the small-town familial feel.
“There is that thing you carry with you growing up in a small town, and when we visited Manchester six years ago, my wife, Lisa, and I fell in love with this small town. So six years later, here we are on a homestead. And Common John and Project Donuts are in the same town. Sold!”

Vaughn also enjoys the sense of community found in a small town.
He said, “I was born and raised in Tullahoma. I moved to Manchester to be in a smaller town. My family and I enjoy the small quiet community that Manchester provides.”
Pillow said the co-owners were inspired to open a barbershop to encourage a deeper sense of unity within the community. They aspired to open a barbershop where people could socialize and connect with other community members.
David said one lesson he learned as a business owner is that community is vital and supporting local is key to keeping the community healthy.
The co-owners are living their dream of opening a shop of their own and are grateful for the receptivity and support the community has shown since its opening.
Pillow said, “We are grateful for everyone [who] walks through our door and [those] who travel from surrounding areas. Everyone has been very welcoming and supportive, and we can’t thank this community enough.” GN
