ON JULY 17, community members gathered under a large tent at Unity Medical Center (UMC) to celebrate its 10th anniversary — a milestone marking the merger of United Regional Medical Center and Manchester Medical Clinic. The event honored a decade of growth and introduced a new chapter: a strategic alliance with Ascension Saint Thomas, one of the nation’s most respected health systems.
Chief Executive Officer Martha Henley and Board Chair Bappa Mukherji shared reflections and unveiled plans for expanded specialty care, advanced technologies, and enhanced telemedicine services. Henley, a Manchester native and chief operating officer of Java Medical Group, emphasized the significance of the partnership.

“This anniversary isn’t just about marking time — it’s about honoring the people who made Unity possible and recommitting to our mission of delivering exceptional care close to home. Our alignment with Ascension Saint Thomas ensures our patients — our neighbors — continue to have access to high-quality care right here in Manchester,” Henley said.
UMC has recently earned several honors, including the Chancellor’s Philanthropic Award from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology McMinnville for its support of nursing education, recognition as Manchester’s Finest Hospital & Doctor Group (2025), and inclusion on Becker’s 2024 list of top-performing rural hospitals.

Looking ahead, Unity will expand access to cardiology, neurosciences, and women’s health, and open a sleep lab by late 2025. Telemedicine services — including telestroke and teleneuro — will further strengthen care for Coffee County residents.
Henley closed with a reminder of Unity Medical Center’s mission. “Rural hospitals are more than facilities — they’re lifelines. We believe every person deserves high-quality care, regardless of ZIP code.” GN
