MaryClaire Sims: Where childlike faith meets faithful service

by | Mar 2026

KINDNESS IS a powerful and often overlooked force. When extended with sincerity and consistency, it leaves a lasting impression on those who encounter it. Such kindness is both rare and unmistakable, particularly when it flows from a genuine concern for others. Many in our community experience this quiet grace when they meet 7-year-old MaryClaire Sims. Gentle yet confident, MaryClaire carries a compassion that reflects the love of Christ at work in her life, offering a simple but meaningful witness through her everyday actions.

From a young age, MaryClaire has demonstrated an attentiveness to others that feels instinctive and sincere. Whether holding the door open for strangers at a store or offering a thoughtful compliment like, “I like your shirt,” her gestures are never forced. They are small acts, yet they consistently leave people feeling seen, valued, and encouraged, even when the interaction lasts only a moment.

MaryClaire’s compassion reaches far beyond everyday courtesy. When she learned that Life Choices, a local ministry supporting expectant mothers and families, was running low on diapers and wipes, she immediately wanted to help. Rather than waiting for adults to organize a response, MaryClaire asked to record a video message to send to family and friends, inviting them to join her in meeting the need. The response was remarkable. Through her initiative, a substantial donation was collected and delivered to Life Choices, providing essential supplies for families in the community.

What makes this effort especially meaningful is the heart behind it. MaryClaire’s generosity is not limited to material giving — it is deeply rooted in prayer. She prays nightly for Life Choices and the families they serve, demonstrating an early understanding that service and prayer are inseparable. Her love for Jesus is reflected in her concern for others and her steady trust that God is attentive to every need.

At Abundant Life Church, where MaryClaire and her family worship, service is woven naturally into her life. Once a month, she helps greet at the door, an experience she eagerly anticipates.

“It’s her favorite Sunday,” her mother shared. For MaryClaire, welcoming others is not a responsibility, but a joy, an opportunity to help people feel at ease and at home.

Her heart for connection is perhaps most evident during visits to the local nursing home. What began as accompanying her Aunt Debi to visit a cousin quickly expanded into meaningful relationships with residents and staff. During her visits, MaryClaire paints nails, shares conversation, gives hugs, and offers companionship marked by warmth and sincerity. These moments have become a ministry of presence, shaped by laughter, attentiveness, and genuine human connection.

MaryClaire also expresses her generosity through intentional giving. Recently, she participated in the Christmas shoebox program, carefully preparing gifts for one boy and one girl. She approached the task with thoughtfulness, selecting each item with care and considering what would bring joy to someone else’s Christmas. For her, the experience was not about completing a project, but about ensuring another child felt remembered and loved.

“Her desire to share Jesus often takes the form of small, tangible expressions,” her mother explained.

At her great-grandfather, Papa Smith’s, funeral, MaryClaire asked her mother to purchase small figurines of Jesus so she could give them to those in attendance. In her understanding, it was a way to offer comfort and hope during a season of grief. Though simple, the gesture reflected her belief that faith is meant to be shared, especially in moments of sorrow.

This pattern of thoughtful generosity continues in everyday settings. When visiting Holt’s with her Aunt Debi, MaryClaire eagerly hands out bracelets featuring Bible verses to customers. Each bracelet is offered with love, eagerness, and kindness, accompanied by a warm smile.

Her mother ensured, “These moments are never about recognition; they are about encouragement and gently pointing others toward God’s love.”

What stands out most about MaryClaire is not a single act of service, but the consistency of her compassion. She is continually thinking of others, lifting people up in prayer, and seeking ways to help. Her actions reveal a heart shaped by empathy and faith, one that reflects Christ in both ordinary and meaningful ways.

For her mother, witnessing MaryClaire’s spiritual growth has been one of life’s greatest joys. “Some of my proudest moments,” she shared, “are watching how much she loves the Lord and how naturally she shares that love with others.”

MaryClaire’s faith is neither forced nor performative; it flows naturally from a sincere desire to love God and love people well.

In a world that often celebrates grand gestures, MaryClaire reminds us of the power of faithful consistency. Holding doors, offering prayers, giving hugs, sharing gifts, and noticing others are the ways she lives out her calling. Her story serves as a reminder that compassion has no age requirement and that even the smallest acts, when rooted in love, can make a lasting difference.

Through her kindness, generosity, and growing faith, MaryClaire exemplifies what it means to serve with a joyful and willing heart. Her life bears gentle witness to a simple truth: loving others well is one of the clearest reflections of loving God. GN
