GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Lebanon. This month, Krys Midgett visited Gyro & Philly Steak.
Recently, two different friends recommended Gyro & Philly Steak. Based on the name alone, I might not have chosen it if it hadn’t come so highly recommended. The name says it all — they specialize in gyros and Philly steak. The menu offers several other options, though; someone walked by with a chicken quesadilla that looked amazing.

My friend Linda suggested this place for lunch, and I’m glad she did. Guess what we ordered? A gyro and a Philly cheesesteak! I also got the stuffed grape leaves, and she ordered onion rings. We shared everything.
She loved the gyro. My favorite was the cheesesteak. The gyro was a mix of lamb, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a delicious, creamy cucumber dip. The cheesesteak was warm and piled high with gooey cheese, sauteed onions and peppers, and the bread was especially soft. The onion rings came out perfectly crisp, never soggy. The grape leaves were served cold and had a unique flavor.

Carlos and the rest of the staff were very helpful. From the outside, it looks like any other place tucked into a strip mall, but inside, it was clean and welcoming. Linda liked watching the staff prepare her food, and she loved the fresh salad bar, where she could pick your own toppings for your gyro.
This review is a lesson in not judging a book by its cover. Had I gone by curb appeal and name alone, I would have missed a great lunch — and probably one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I’ve ever had.

I appreciate Connor and Linda for the recommendation. If you haven’t tried this place yet, stop in and let them know you read about it in Good News Magazine. GN
