The morning’s dew clings to the laces of cleats as the sun begins to peek over the bleachers. You can smell it: the earthy mix of freshly cut turf and the faint, metallic scent of the stadium lights warming up. It’s the rhythmic “thud-thud-thud” of a ball being dribbled on a hardwood floor, echoing in a gymnasium. Victory is the sound of five voices calling out a play in unison, a single heartbeat shared by 20 different people.
You will be exhausted when you try to carry the goalpost entirely on your own. It is the feeling of your lungs burning and your legs turning to lead, realizing that the field is too wide and the clock is too fast for one person to manage.
But we were never meant to play a game of one. We are a community built on the “Home Team” philosophy — the idea that my strength covers your weakness, and your vision clarifies my path. Whether it’s on the court, in a local business, or around a kitchen table, we are better when we are a “we.”
To the person trying to shoulder the entire burden today: look to your left and your right. Our town is full of teammates waiting for the signal to jump in. We find our true power not in our individual stats, but in our collective huddle.
Teamwork is the engine of our progress. We win when we play together. GN
