Thousands of people gathered at Arnold Air Force Base on June 27 as the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) celebrated its 75th anniversary with a public open house.
The daylong event welcomed families, community members, current and former employees, and military personnel for a behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most significant installations. Visitors had the opportunity to tour portions of the base by bus, explore historical exhibits, and learn more about the work performed at AEDC through interactive displays and informational booths.
In addition to celebrating AEDC’s history, the event offered something for all ages. Live music, food trucks, and local vendors were available. A children’s activity area and STEM exhibits also kept young attendees entertained throughout the day.
Additionally, several ceremonies were held during the celebration to recognize the people and partnerships that have helped shape AEDC over the past 75 years. Community leaders and distinguished contributors were honored, and a commemorative time capsule was sealed to be opened during the complex’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2051.
The milestone celebration also included the official rededication of AEDC and concluded with a Change of Command ceremony, marking a leadership transition for the organization.
For many in attendance, the open house was a rare opportunity to step inside the installation, learn about its history, and see firsthand the work that has made AEDC an important part of the local community for generations.
The anniversary celebration not only recognized decades of innovation and achievement but also highlighted the strong connection between Arnold Air Force Base and the surrounding communities that have supported its mission since its founding. GN
