NEVER JUDGE a book its cover and never judge a restaurant by its building. Mini Super Los 3 Reyes may seem like a small convenience store, but it’s hiding away Shelbyville’s best-kept secret. The moment you walk through the doors, you’re overtaken with a multitude of items that range from home essentials, a lush produce section, and enough candy to make Willy Wonka jealous.
You’re always greeted with a familiar face and a friendly smile which truly makes you feel special. My friends and I love eating here, so I had to bring them along with me. After grabbing a glass bottle of cold soda that’s bottled in Mexico, we walked past the register into the restaurant located at the back of the store. We’re served a basket of warm chips with fresh homemade salsa, and I order my usual: five chicken tacos with cheese.
One of my friends is very adventurous and orders things I would never order— one of the orders being tacos de lengua, which translates to tongue. I decided to step far out of my comfort zone and try one. To my surprise, the cow tongue was extremely tender and tasted just like roast beef. The tacos also come with individual limes for you to squeeze on themaswellasaredanda green sauce. I typically add the red sauce to my tacos, which adds some serious spice that pairs so well with the chicken and cheese and freshly squeezed lime. The portions are large and very well plated, which creates an excellent presentation.
With such a friendly en- vironment, expansive menu, and passion for each dish, I will always come back to Mini Super Los 3 Reyes. I enjoy eating more and more authentic Mexican cuisine while I work my way through their menu, trying new things as I go. It’s one of my go-to lunch spots and I urge everyone to try them out. If you love tacos as much as I do, be sure to visit on Taco Tuesday when all tacos are 89¢ each. -GN
