EVER SINCE I first ate at Southern Fare restaurant, I knew they would be around for many years to come. Their first location was smaller in size, which could not handle the capacity of patrons storming the doors for a bite of fantastic food. Upon moving to their new location, you have a better shot at being blessed with their food.
Southern food is arguably where my love of food first started. The versatility and endless options truly strike a cord within everyone who eats it, giving it the well deserved name of “soul food.” Those endless options are well represented within the menu at Southern Fare. Pork chops, fried chicken, grilled fish, oh my! Whichever direction you choose to go, you’re in for a surreal treat. The quality of food at Southern Fare is superb. Never once have I not enjoyed every bite.
My go-to dish is the country fried steak. Fried to a golden brown and topped with the signature white gravy and served with two sides, can I possibly finish it all? Of course I can. I also order my favorite Southern sides, fried okra, and french fries. To top it off, a freshly made piece of fried cornbread. This is hands down the best cornbread I’ve had in my life, and I say that lightly, just don’t tell my mother.
Southern Fare is a Southern staple in this Southern town, and bless your heart if you haven’t been by. Guaranteed to stick around for many years to come, it’s truly a crowd favorite in Shelbyville and it shows by the packed parking lot at all open hours. Come by for the food, see some familiar faces, and get your belly stuffed with what the South is known for. GN
