THE FIFTH annual Spring Fling, hosted by the Bedford County Fair Board at 2119 Midland Rd., included a free countywide Easter egg hunt, a guest appearance by the Easter Bunny himself, 60 vendors under one roof, and seven food trucks dotting the parking lot. Due to the surging popularity of this event and at the insistence of returning vendors, the board extended it from one day to an entire fun-filled weekend. The weather on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, couldn’t have been more perfect. Gates opened at 8 a.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday, and the event lasted until 3 p.m. both days.

Anticipating large crowds returning for the third annual Easter egg hunt, volunteers from the fair board stuffed 10,000 eggs. They were not disappointed. On Saturday, children ages 1 to 12 showed up in droves. As they plowed through the horse arena, they plopped colorful eggs into their baskets. They also enjoyed having their faces painted and adding sparkly tinsel to their hair.
Among the vendors were Mimi’s Creations, Southern Sisters Crafts, Clarabell Collectibles, Charms & Tales, and Sweet Darling Boutique. Patriotic wooden flags created by local veteran Jimmy Sorrells were also available for sale. Collectibles, fried pies, soaps and handmade goodies, curated Easter baskets, and lovingly designed spring decor were among the items available in the vendor booths, along with canned pickles and preserves, fresh-baked sourdough bread, and gluten-free culinary delights.

Food trucks included Grumps American Diner, Cliff ’s Smokin’ BBQ, Pit Stop Trolley, Twisted Kone, and the Dirty Hippie, known for satisfying everyone’s cravings for freshly brewed coffee, soft-serve ice cream, and other fan favorites.
Jerri Lynn Smith said, “When we first started this event, we began small, and as word got out, interest grew steadily. We keep our costs low to our vendors to encourage local participation. We are proud to host this free event open to the public, and we greatly appreciate everyone who showed up.”
