THROUGH THE years, I’ve seen this location under many identities, but my all-time favorite is Penalties Sports Bar and Grill. This isn’t your average sports bar, so don’t let the name fool you. I remember my first visit — a rainy Saturday with the Vols playing against the Pittsburg Panthers, shown on a multitude of televisions that you can see from any angle. Also, it just so happened to be the first day serving their new and improved menu. What a perfect time to order up some fried cheese curds, honey barbecue boneless wings, Caribbean jerk dry-rub wings, and cheeseburger sliders.
The fried cheese curds were perfectly crisp on the outside and melty on the inside, served with the most delicious and mouth-watering sweet chili sauce, which I unapologetically brought home with me in my to-go box. The wings were perfectly tossed and sauced with a similar flavor that likened those of chain wing restaurants we all know of. The dry-rubbed Caribbean jerk wings were crispy, well-balanced, and beautifully flavored. With three in the basket, the sliders were the perfect size and portion. Now you can see why I had a togo box. With so much food, I was stuffed and had more to eat later, which I really looked forward to.
With their new expansive menu of food and drinks, you’re sure to find something you’ll love. And with different activities such as trivia night, live music, karaoke, and even “wild wing Wednesday” you’ll be entertained for hours. So, whether your favorite team is playing, you need something good to eat on a rainy day, or just want a fun atmosphere; hit up Penalties Sports Bar and Grill for a touchdown of a meal, and in the meantime, I’ll be dreaming of that sweet chili sauce.
