Wartrace music legend memorialized with historic marker.
WARTRACE CELEBRATED its musical heritage in June with the unveiling of a marker honoring jazz trombonist Jimmy Cleveland, a Wartrace native. The Tennessee Music Pathways program placed the marker in Wartrace, recognizing Cleveland’s accomplishments performing with jazz legends and on “The Merv Griffin Show.” Family and friends attended the event, reminiscing about Cleveland’s humor and generosity. The marker is located in downtown Wartrace, near the railroad square. GN

TRAVIS EMORE was recently appointed as the director of arena operations and Events at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. Emore, known for his expertise in equestrian facility management and footing, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Celebration CEO Warren Wells expressed excitement about Emore’s addition to the team and acknowledged his strong reputation in the industry. Emore’s appointment aims to contribute to the future success of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration and Cooper Steel Arena. GN
Shelbyville Mills School reunion breakfast held.
FORMER SHELBYVILLE Mills School (SMS) students gathered for a reunion breakfast this summer at Fellowship for Christ Church, Shelbyville. The first grade class of 1957-58 met several times then extended the invitation to all former SMS students. Special guests were former SMS students, Shelbyville Mayor Randy Carroll, and Sharon McDonald. McDonald’s parents, Lon and Cleo Shelton, were educators at the school. The mill community was a favorite in Shelbyville’s history and holds a special place in the hearts of those who called it home. GN

A BRIDGE OVER the Duck River in Shelbyville, Tennessee, was dedicated to the late Jimmy Woodson, a former county mayor, commissioner, and educator. Woodson, who passed away in 2021, served the community for years, battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) while fulfilling his responsibilities. He was praised for his courage, persistence, and commitment to public service. Woodson’s unwavering dedication and impact on the Bedford County community were evident through his years of service and leadership. GN
