For more than 60 years, Victory Baptist Church in Shelbyville has opened its doors to families looking for a place to grow in faith. Founded in 1961, the Independent Fundamental Baptist church has always kept God and His Word at the center of everything it does. These days, much of that work is aimed at the youngest people in the pews.
The church’s youth department and children’s ministry give kids and teens a steady place to belong. Each week, families gather for Sunday School at 10 a.m., Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and a Wednesday evening service at 7 p.m. For many young people, those weekly gatherings become the backbone of their week, a time to learn, laugh, and build friendships with others who share their values.
Camps add something special. The VBC Youth Camp gives teens time away from screens and busy schedules so they can focus on what matters most. This fall, the church is also hosting a Father and Son Camp Out on Oct. 23 and 24, a chance for dads and boys to spend time outdoors and grow closer to God and each other.
Through its bus ministry, the church reaches out to children and families across the community. Victory Baptist Academy, the church’s school, carries those same values into the classroom during the week. Leading the way is Pastor Loyd Warren, who knows youth work well. He first joined Victory in 1996 as a youth pastor and assistant pastor before becoming a pastor in 2020. Today, Assistant Pastor and Youth Pastor Dalton Dickerson helps guide the next generation.
The church promises that visitors will be treated like family from the moment they walk in. As its own welcome puts it, “Come by, and we will treat you so many ways you will have to like one of them.”
