PURPLE, GREEN, and gold beads cascade over tables and hang from lights. Masquerade masks shimmer with sequins and feathers. A wrought-iron streetlight decoration declares that guests are at the corner of Mardi Gras and New Orleans. Although this event is held at the beautiful Monterey Station in Cowan, attendees are transported to the vibrant streets of New Orleans, Louisiana, for the annual Good Shepherd Mardi Gras Fundraiser.
This year marked the 36th annual Mardi Gras event for Good Shepherd Parish on Feb. 7, 2026. Over 400 guests gathered to enjoy an entertaining evening of delectable Cajun cuisine, festive carnival costumes, and live music that brought the Big Easy’s celebratory vibes to the heart of Middle Tennessee. It is their largest fundraiser of the year, according to Caroline Woods, director of administrative services at Good Shepherd Parish and Ministries.

“It’s a wonderful time. It’s totally decorated, and the food is oriented toward the Mardi Gras theme,” Woods said. “We get a very nice mix of people from the Good Shepherd community and a lot of people from Franklin County at large.”
The event welcomed back the pop-rock band, Stretta, from Nashville, encouraging guests to get on the dance floor. The evening’s menu featured traditional Cajun dishes and non-traditional options, catered by talented local chef Chris McDonald.
“People really enjoy this event,” Woods said.

The Mardi Gras tickets, along with a silent auction, raise funds to support four different local missions. It provides funding for the parish itself to continue its ministries and local charitable works, and supports Good Samaritan Ministries of Franklin County. It also funds the Linda Bauman Memorial Scholarship for local students entering the medical field. This scholarship honors a parishioner who was a local nurse anesthetist. Lastly, the event helps fund the Honor Flight Program, a special service for our veterans.
“The Honor Flight Program facilitates trips for veterans to the nation’s capital so that they can see the war monuments,” Woods said.

Woods said she is grateful for her parish and all that they do for the community, including this impactful event.
“I had the experience of moving here and joining a church that is like a family,” Woods said. “It’s a very loving and caring environment, and it’s a wonderful place for me to live out my faith.” GN
