When Isaac Matthew Hall and Mary Gladys Hall packed up their five children and left Winfield, Alabama, in 1949, they were taking a big chance on a new town. Isaac had spent years managing a furniture store for E.H. Lehman, and when the chance came to buy Lehman’s store in Winchester, the couple said “yes.” More than 70 years later, that leap of faith is still helping families all across Franklin County.
Hall Furniture has stayed in the Hall family ever since. Isaac ran the store for many years before his sons, Don and Jerry, and his daughter, Patsy, took on more of the work. Don later left to chase other business dreams, but Jerry and his wife, Nancy, kept things going alongside Patsy Roddy. Then the next generation stepped in. Jerry and Nancy’s daughter, Tammy Stevens, joined in 1987, and her brother, Mitch Hall, came on board in 2002. A year later, Tammy and Mitch took over daily operations. Jerry and Patsy are still an important part of the store today.
That kind of staying power means a lot in a small community. A store that has been around this long has likely furnished first apartments, nurseries, and forever homes for parents, their children, and even their grandchildren. The Halls understand that a sofa or a dining table is more than a purchase. It is where Sunday naps happen, where homework gets done, and where holiday meals are shared.
Today, the showroom is filled with something for every room, from cozy sectionals and home office desks to kids’ bedroom sets, outdoor fire pits, and a large selection of mattresses. Shoppers will find trusted names like Ashley, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Liberty, and Vaughan-Bassett, along with financing options and local delivery. Even with all that choice, the heart of Hall Furniture has not changed since 1949. It is still one family helping other families feel at home.
