Almost everyone has something about their skin they would change. For some, it is the endless routine of shaving and waxing. For others, it is a tattoo that no longer fits the person they have become. At Winchester Primary Care, Dr. James Chiu is helping local residents with both, and he is doing it with a doctor’s eye.
Most laser hair removal is done at med spas by technicians. Here, every treatment is overseen by a physician who considers the whole person, including health history and medications that might affect the results.

For hair removal, the practice uses the Alma Harmony SHR system. Instead of one sharp burst of heat, the handpiece glides over the skin in quick, gentle passes that slowly warm the hair follicle until it stops growing. Most people say it feels warm rather than painful, and numbing cream usually isn’t needed. It is also safe for a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin that older lasers struggled to treat. A typical plan is six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, and small areas like the upper lip can take as little as 10 minutes.
Tattoo removal uses the same Alma Harmony platform with a different approach. Fast pulses of laser light break ink into tiny pieces, and the body clears them away over the following weeks. Because the system works across several wavelengths, it can tackle black and dark blue as well as tougher colors like red and orange. Some people want a tattoo gone for good. Others only want it faded enough to make room for a new design, which often takes fewer visits.
Dr. Chiu is honest about what to expect. Some light inks resist fading, and fine or gray hair may not respond well. He shares that up front, so each patient walks in with a clear plan. One session at a time, patients are reclaiming smooth skin and a fresh, natural canvas.
