GOOD NEWS IS COMING TO DINNER! We will feature a local food critic’s thoughts as they dine in Franklin County. This month, Tabitha Buckner visited Osaka Sushi & Steakhouse.
One of my favorite things about eating out is finding a restaurant where everyone in the group can look at the menu and find something they actually want to eat. Osaka in Winchester is definitely one of those places.
The menu here is extensive, with plenty of Japanese favorites to choose from, like my delicious chicken katsu with gyoza, spring rolls, and more, along with a surprisingly large sushi selection. If you’re anything like me, you may find yourself spending a little more time than expected deciding what to order. There are plenty of familiar choices for those who like to stick with their favorites, as well as enough variety to tempt the more adventurous diner. And more choices means you can keep coming back again and again to try something new.
Sushi was obviously a favorite, as the staff delivered roll after roll to the tables around us. We opted for the Kamikaze roll, and it was packed with personality! Stuffed with shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber, topped with spicy tuna, crunchy bites, and eel sauce, it was an explosion of flavors.
And then there’s the hibachi. The live hibachi experience is one of the things that makes a meal at Osaka feel like an outing rather than simply dinner. There’s something fun about sitting around the grill and watching your meal being prepared right in front of you. If that’s the experience you’re after, though, my advice is to call ahead and make a reservation for hibachi. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to watch it being cooked, but our steak hibachi delivered right to the table was still fresh, hot, and everything you expect it to be, just without the showmanship.
During my visit, I was especially impressed by the friendly service. Everyone I encountered was pleasant and welcoming, and that goes a long way in my book. A good meal is always better when you feel comfortable and taken care of while you’re there.
With such a broad menu, a generous sushi selection, and the added entertainment of live hibachi, Osaka offers something for just about everyone around the table. GN
