GLITZ, GLAMOUR, balloons, sparkly sequins, and a whole lot of pictureperfect smiles transformed the theater at Shelbyville Central High School on Saturday, Feb. 7, for the 2026 Mister and Miss Sweetheart Pageant. Limelight Marquee bathed the stage in music and provided the Valentine’s Day-themed backdrop plus a flashy photo booth in the lobby. Code Balloons went all out with their colorful clusters of red, white, and pink balloons. Jittery contestants began checking in at 9 a.m., and the pageant began at 10 a.m. Those aiming to attain the title of most photogenic made their appearance onstage at 9:30 a.m. Silky sashes bearing soughtafter titles, jeweled crowns, and participation awards were presented to ensure every contestant exited the stage feeling like a winner.

Contestants ranged in age from birth to 50 and older, representing one of 14 age categories. Unlike the Fairest of the Fair pageant, which the Bedford County Fair Board also sponsors, participants in this annual event can live outside of Bedford County. Female contestants sought crowns for best hair, best eyes, best smile, best dress, and best personality, while male contestants sought titles in best outfit, best smile, and best personality. After the panel of judges tallied the scores, supreme titles were awarded. Votes were also sold in the weeks leading up to the big event for $1 each, and the four contestants who raised the most money earned the People’s Choice Awards.

Bedford County Fair Board Director Brandi Smith said, “The Sweetheart Pageant isn’t just about crowns and titles; it’s about confidence, community, and creating memories that bring generations together while giving back to the place we call home. This year, the $4,500 raised through our popular people’s choice award was donated to LifeSource Family Solutions. Anytime a nonprofit can raise money for another nonprofit, that’s special.”
