Step back in time this summer and discover the deep roots of the local heritage. On June 27, the Camp Blount Historic Site Association will invite neighbors and visitors alike to the Joseph Greer Cabin Open House 250th American Celebration. Running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this free event offers a wonderful, hands-on look at pioneer life.
The association is dedicated to serving our community by keeping history alive and accessible. At the heart of the day’s events is the incredible story of Joseph Greer, a local Revolutionary War hero who famously carried the news of the victory at Kings Mountain all the way to the Continental Congress.

To bring this history to life for families, the association is hosting a day packed with interactive experiences. Visitors can chat with passionate storytellers and watch living history presentations. You can see traditional cooking over an open fire, learn the ancient art of flint knapping, and watch historic sewing demonstrations. It is a perfect way for kids and adults to connect with the past.
The star of the show is the newly reconstructed pioneer cabin of Joseph Greer. Thanks to a partnership between state and local groups, the association helped relocate and rebuild the cabin using original materials saved from Greer’s actual homestead.
Spanning 40 acres managed by the City of Fayetteville, Camp Blount is the last remaining piece of the mustering grounds where Tennessee’s famous volunteer troops gathered during the War of 1812. As a nonprofit, the association works to preserve this beautiful park and educate the public, ensuring our shared history is never forgotten.
