Over the last century, Fayetteville has grown and changed, and Higgins Funeral Home has evolved right along with it. What started as a modest undertaking business in 1903 has continually adapted to meet the changing needs of local families, all while keeping its core commitment to the community completely unchanged.
In the early days, the services offered by the firm looked much different than they do today. For a long time, the company’s motor-driven hearses did double duty, serving as the local ambulances for Lincoln County. This vital community service continued until 1972, when the official county ambulance service was finally established.

Growth also brought major challenges. The original funeral home facility, a beautiful historic structure built in 1912, was tragically destroyed by a fire in 1986. It was a heartbreaking loss for both the family and the town. However, the disaster did not slow down their mission. The Higgins family remained steadfast, ensuring that their high level of service never wavered for the people depending on them.
Today, their care extends to the peaceful grounds of Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. This tranquil spot offers a final resting place that includes traditional cemetery plots, private family estates, a special Garden of Honor for military veterans, and a modern columbarium for cremated remains.
For Charles Higgins and his team, adding these modern features is just another way to honor local lives. It reflects a multi-generational legacy of care that keeps the funeral home deeply connected to the town it has proudly served for over 120 years, and demonstrates how they have been community-centered and family-focused since 1903.
