Higgins Funeral Home invites local residents to a restorative nature-based Community Grief Walk on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026. The free community event offers a supportive space for individuals and families navigating the journey of loss.
The gathering begins at 2:00 p.m. at the Joy Gleghorn Nature Preserve at Wells Hill Park. Following a brief opening reflection and a symbolic community action to honor loved ones, participants are welcome to walk the trail at their own pace. “Grief can feel isolating, but stepping into the peace of nature reminds us we don’t have to carry the weight alone,” says Andrea Delap, funeral director. “There is no pressure and no right or wrong way to grieve. Whether you walk in quiet reflection or share memories with neighbors, this path is for you.”

Owner Chris Ross echoes this sentiment: “Our hope is that this walk provides our neighbors with a meaningful way to connect, find comfort, and feel the embrace of a supportive community.”
Families are encouraged to bring children. A dedicated youth tent at the trailhead will feature interactive, age-appropriate activities to help children creatively express their emotions and honor special memories. Water and grief care resources will be available at the pavilion.
The event is open to anyone who has experienced a loss, whether recently or years ago. Participants may bring a friend, family member, or a photograph of their loved one. While registration is not required, RSVPs are appreciated to help organizers prepare materials. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Andrea at Higgins Funeral Home.
