As cooler weather approaches, Gas/Water/Wastewater Maintenance Operator Jimmy Medley is one of the Fayetteville Public Utilities (FPU) employees helping customers prepare their homes for the season. Each fall, Medley visits homes across the community to light pilot lights and help customers get their natural gas appliances ready for colder days ahead.
Through FPU’s Free Fall Light Up program, natural gas customers can schedule an appointment to have a technician light the pilot lights of natural gas heaters, logs, or fireplaces at no charge.

Natural gas provides a safe, dependable, and affordable energy option for home heating, fireplaces, and other gas appliances, bringing comfort and convenience to customers throughout the colder months. The annual program gives customers an opportunity to make sure they are ready before the first cold spell arrives.
This year’s Free Fall Light Up will run from Monday, September 14, through Friday, October 30. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
To ensure safety, FPU can only provide the service once the home is occupied by the customer listed on the account. After the free service period ends, light-up requests are $30 during regular business hours and $50 after hours.
Get ahead of the cold and enjoy a warm, worry-free start to the season.
